Not a whole lot going on in the writing department. I haven't submitted anything, nor have I heard back from Doorways or Shroud on the two stories I have out there. I did get some writing done. (I think I mentioned this one before, actually.) A few months back I had written up a quick flash piece for one of those one-hour forum writing challenges. I thought the story was fairly tasty for about 45 minutes of work. It was 700 words long, or maybe 800, but I felt it could be a longer, better story.
It was called "Show & Tell," then "After School Special," and finally, after adding about 4,300 words, "The Amazing Vinnie Stitcher." It's almost finished. I sent it off to some Shockliners for critique, and a friend (whom I don't know) of a friend read it and had some great suggestions to make it better. His closing comments were as follows:
"I really liked the story! Very creative and original premise! Ken does a good job of taking you inside the heads of Corbin and Vinnie. His descriptive text is also very effective, great use of imagery."
That's cool with me. Based on his other, more critical comments, I think I can trust he wasn't being biased because he knows my good friend. It's encouraging. I've already made some changes thanks to his suggestions, and I'm sure the Shockliners will find some issues with it (not too many, I hope). So with any luck I can make it stronger very soon and then send it off. I think it's a cool story.
Beyond that, I'm currently in the middle of "The Bleeding of Mary Rose" (title will not change). It's a wicked little tale, if I may say so. One of my most twisted yet. I also have another short piece in the works. This one has a deadline of 12/31, so I should have it finished soon. No title yet.
In the new year, I will go back to three of my older drafts—"The Shadow on the Wall," "Seven of the Blackest Words," and "Kissing Death," which will likely get a new title—and rework them. Right! So how about a cool video?
Ghoultown. Dig it!
