So...Shock Totem and the 52 Stiches...a swell new band? Nope. But it does have a cool ring to it, huh? This first post is about family, and extended family. The Internet kind, the Shock Totem kind.
There seems to be a budding community growing over at Shock Totem, particularly on our forum. It's a place to discuss all things serious and goofy, and it's positive, unlike countless other forums out there. We have a good time. And it's extra cool when we see these cats—Totemites, as someone dubbed them—find success in their writing. Even cooler when many share success in the same place.
This year, 52 Stitches has already featured six Totemites, with more to come, I'm sure. In fact, John Boden's short but twisted "The Worm Eaters" is up this week. Editor and publisher Aaron Polson is either crazy or has impeccable taste. Both, perhaps.
Either way, here are our the link to our tales (and websites).
Blue Plate Special, by Nick Contor
Second Sight, by Kurt Newton
A Delicately Beautiful Haunting, by Mercedes M. Yardley
By the Firelight, by K. Allen Wood (ahem!)
Edible Flowers Perched Above a Dying Landscape, by Cate Gardner
The Worm Eaters, by John Boden
The Scenic Path of Human Artefacts, by Cate Gardner
Flash Cards for the Blind, by Kurt Newton
Hope you dig 'em!

Hey Ken! Sounds like you really started a fascinating trend there :P
Seriously, all of those stories are amazing! I think that you've assembled a cracker jack group of respectable, intelligent and creative crew.
I honestly love it at Shock Totem. I think it's a wonderful place with wonderful people! My own writing has grown even in the short time I have joined up. (Plus all the "fun" we have over there isn't too shabby neither :D)
The shirt thing sounds almost Miami Vice meets Garth Brooks. I love to see the Totemites in a zine together. Aaron Polson's 52 Stitches is a fine publication.
I have some funnier photos of us in those shirts, but they're all in photo albums and stuff. It was a good time, that year.
I think there's a touch of the crazy to Mr Polson.*
*As President of his fan club, I'm allowed to say that. I will however torture anyone else (except Ken) who says so. ;)
Oh, and the Shock Totem forum rocks.
That's a bunch of great stories! Rock on Totemites!
Ken -- just read your stitch "By the Firelight" and I've got to say this is a great flash fiction piece. It has just the right balance of information and imagery -- at times some pretty poetic imagery. I don't know what you did to this since the first time I read it, but whatever you did it worked! I wouldn't change a thing.
Awesome. Thanks, Kurt! Even the cynic in me smiled. =)
I'm definately insane...and if I could play an instrument, I'd try out for the band.
You could rock the kazoo. It takes no talent. Haha.
Great stories, Ken. Thanks for providing the links! And I agree, the ST forum is made of awesome.
Thanks, Damien. =)
I'm clearly crazy. That is all.
You already said that. Haha.
