I, Writing

I haven't done a writing update for a while. I was doing them weekly, but felt they were a bit stale. I felt like I was talking it up, you know. I'd rather just do it, then report when it's done.

So what's done?

Well, my latest tale, "Long Days to Come," is currently out there in the Rejectiverse. Only this one is short-listed for inclusion in a very cool little magazine. A change in trends! We'll see what happens.

I have another one out there called "Goddamn Electric," and I'm hoping to hear back on that soon. Response time from the publication I sent it to is 20 to 30 days, and it's been 25. Ah, the waiting...

Sometimes I think publications with quick response times are worse for a writer's psyche. Normally, we can toss a story out there and get on with our lives, knowing that it'll probably be close to a year or more before we hear something—if we're that lucky. But knowing a publication will respond quickly is a different, more vicious kind of torture. You know it's coming, and coming soon. The anticipation sucks. I find it harder to move on to new projects until I hear back.

Anyway, beyond that I'll be casting "The Candle Eaters" to the cruel winds in the next few days, after I finish a thorough run-through. And then it's onto a very cool project that will become Shock Totem's first non-magazine release. More on that in the months to come.

Dig it, and happy writing!
